Chapter Five

“I’m not going to do it here,” Caesar told his contact. “Not in the middle of the Games.”

“That’s what the client wants. It needs to be public and shocking.”

Caesar scrubbed his hand over his face, an annoyed sigh escaping his throat. “I don’t fucking care what the goddamn client wants. He hired me because I’m the best, and he knew the rules when he chose me for the job. I’ll do it my way. If he doesn’t fucking like it, he can take his money and go somewhere else.”

“I told him you wouldn’t do it. Not during the Games with all those innocents running around, but he wants it to be like Munich.”

“Munich? Those Games still haunt people.” Caesar gritted his teeth because yelling at his contact wasn’t going to do any good.

He shouldn’t have taken the job, but when he found out it would take him to the Olympics, he’d jumped at it. All because he knew he’d be able to see Justin. Caesar never doubted he could sneak in and out of the Village where the athletes stayed without a problem. There weren’t many security systems he couldn’t get around, and credentials were easy enough to fake.

“Tell him I’ll do it once we’re back in South America, but not until then. He’s more than welcome to hire someone else if he needs it done before that.” He ended the phone call and tossed his phone on his bed.

Pacing, he clenched and unclenched his hands, trying to get his anger under control. For the first time, he’d let his own wants and wishes make a decision for him and look where it had gotten him. Another night with Justin isn’t a bad thing.

He chuckled. Okay so that outcome was a good one, but the fact his client wanted him to complete his job in the middle of an event where thousands of people gathered wasn’t.

Caesar might be many things, but a killer of innocents wasn’t one of them. He wouldn’t risk other people getting injured. More than that, he wouldn’t risk putting Justin in any kind of danger. Not that his lover would be anywhere near Caesar’s target, but still, the possibility was there.

After dropping onto the edge of his bed, he stared at the floor for a moment as he ran through his options. He only had one really, and that was sticking to what he’d told his contact. He’d do the job when the target returned to South America, not before. If the client didn’t like that, he could pull the money out of the processing account and give it to someone else. Caesar didn’t really care. His reputation wouldn’t take a hit and neither would his checking account.

Being the best in his chosen profession made it easy to find jobs and charge whatever he wanted to get it done. He had more than enough to live the rest of his life in luxury if he chose to quit right now.

Caesar picked up his phone to check the schedule he’d set up to let him keep track of when Justin was competing.
